After your first Bikram class, what was your impression?A friend had been encouraging me to try Bikram for the past year and after my
initial class, I was honestly hooked. I am a workout junkie and this was an
amazingly different concept of exercise that both exhausted and renewed me.
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back?I honestly wish I could afford the time to practice every day; but the days I do
attend class, I feel more grounded and healthy, and it is the closest thing to
meditation I engage in.
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
I love the physical benefits I have received thus far, like becoming more
flexible, better posture, and strengthening. This yoga has also helped me with
my anxiety, and I have come to rely on it as a means of therapy.
What is your favorite posture in the series and why?
I absolutely love standing head to knee and standing bow poses. Head to knee was
my most challenging posture when I started and even though it continues to be,
it has also been the most rewarding. Both of these poses are beautiful when
admired from afar.
What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself?
My greatest challenge would most likely be abstaining from judgement. I
appreciate the instructors' reminder to not judge myself after a pose, to let
it go, and to give myself a little kudos for taking the time to attend class.
Everyone needs self-praise and I believe this aspect has carried over into my
daily life.
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? After witnessing my sister participate in her first class and be humbled by the
yoga's intensity, I would advise anyone to do just that- to allow oneself to be
humbled by the yoga.
