My first impression was that I'd never be able to do half the poses,
but I could tell that just trying was going to help get me flexible -
in spite of the
dizziness. I'm addicted. When I stay away too long I start to feel
stiff and sluggish. My adult son encouraged me to try Bikram, and, as
usual, he was right. It's the best exercise I've
had.
After your first Bikram class, what was your impression?
My first impression was that I'd never be able to do half the
poses, but I could tell that just trying was going to help get me
flexible - in spite of the dizziness.
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back?
I'm addicted. When I stay away too long I start to feel stiff and sluggish.
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
I can skate and play hockey better because I'm stronger and more flexible. I feel better and healthier. And I think I'm taller.
What is your favorite posture in the series and why?
Hmmm. I think Rabbit. I can do it, for one, and I like the stretch. Also, I think I've always looked at things upside-down.
What is the greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself?
I'm finding it hard to build the muscles to balance in all the one-legged poses, and hard to
get flexible enough to sit between my feet or do back bends. I
get frustrated when I'm constantly falling out of poses.
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class?
Don't worry if you feel woozy and maybe sick. It passes, and you'll be glad you come back.
