I continue to practice because I love the effect that Bikram has on my mood. I feel so happy and content after a class that all the work is well worth it. I am thrilled to see my progress and how my body can do so much more than when I first started. I am also so happy that I can see my arm and leg muscles again! In addition, I find that I have more patience with myself and the students in my class the day after I have practiced. I have become a much more happy person.
After your first Bikram class, what was your impression?
I can't believe I made it through... it was tough, but I felt so energized and alive after that I was hooked immediately.
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back?
I continue to practice because I love the effect that Bikram has on my mood. I feel so happy and content after a class that all the work is well worth it. I am thrilled to see my progress and how my body can do so much more than when I first started. Finally, the people are great. It is so enjoyable to see the same friendly faces week after week. Miranda, Meredith, Ariel and all the instructors are always so helpful, kind and encouraging. They always seem to know when to give you the "little extra" to push yourself that much more.
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
My strength and endurance has improved greatly as well as being able to use my breathing to relax my body. I am also so happy that I can see my arm and leg muscles again! In addition, I find that I have more patience with myself and the students in my class the day after I have practiced. I have become a much more happy person.
What is your favorite posture?
My current favorite posture (which changes frequently)is standing bow pulling. I know I have a long way to go, but I can almost see my foot over my head. I can also hold my balance a lot longer than ever before!
What is the greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself?
My greatest challenge is accepting my body for what it is. In my daily life I find myself comparing it to others and not celebrating what it is able to do. Through the guidance of the Bikram instructors I am constantly reminded to do my "personal best" and I feel so successful after each class that I am able to push myself a little bit further.
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class?
Keep at it! Your body will thank you and you will thank yourself. Completing a class is a great accomplishment and each one should be celebrated. Give it a few tries and you will love it!
Additional:
Thanks so much to the instructors for all your support and encouragement it is just as important to me as the yoga practice itself. |
