After your first Bikram class, what was your impression?I have worked out all my life ,even acheiving a 2nd degree black belt in chinese kempo karate. Bikram Yoga by far was the hardest workout i have ever been through
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back?
The challenge it presents to my body. Years ago i was very flexible and would like to be like that again. I even completed the 28 day challenge in feb.!!!
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
I have had rotor cuff surgery, two knee surgeries, two bladder surgeries and have suffered from panick attacks and bad anxiety. My knees feel better, my shoulder feels great and I'm hoping to beat my depression and anxiety.
What is your favorite posture?
Triangle pose, because its one of the toughest for me. I also like camel pose the stretch feels great!
What is the greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? Not focusing on the heat and trying to breathe correctly all the time. With myself i need to stop thinking about outside problems and focus on the yoga only.
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class?
Don't freak out about the heat. Try and stay focused on the instructors, and remember to breathe properly through your nose. Don't chug down the water in class, you should already be well hydrated before you get in to class.
Additional:To me this could be my livesaver(yoga). I was very down and depressed with no zest for life at all. Within a few months i am noticing a positive mental change and also I feel more energy out of class, plus all the people there are great!!
